Can Your Condo/HOA Limit the Voting Power of Owners with Multiple Properties?

An HOAleader.com reader asks, “Our North Carolina development has around 1,100 properties comprised of individual homes and undeveloped land. We’re concerned that someone could purchase a large number of lots and use those votes to virtually control the outcome of any issue put to a vote by the POA. One suggestion has been to add a limit in the bylaws stating that one entity will have a limited number of votes if their holdings exceed a fixed number, such as 10 properties. Would this be practical/legal?”
